Blockly Cookies

13 September 2014

Let's bake cookies in the shape of blocks from Blockly. The first step is to make or acquire a Blockly Cookie Cutter.

Next, it's time to make some gingerbread. Mix the following ingredients very thoroughly:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 chicken egg
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Roll the dough out and use your cookie cutter to make blocks. Bake in the oven for 8 minutes at 190°C or 375°F.

Optionally decorate the cookies. Icing can be made with 1 cup confectioners sugar and 1 teaspoon milk and 1 teaspoon corn syrup. Use food colouring as desired and paint the icing onto the blocks.

Alternatively, paint letters by hand:

Or use a laser cutter to make a stencil:

Then use the stencil to apply the pattern:
