Trying to Fail

Things don't always go according to plan, so it is often a good idea to prepare for failures and have a contingency plan. In the world of software this is called "exception handling". Conventional wisdom is that exception handlers are good practice and increase the reliability of the program.

The opposite is sometimes the case.
