Red Tape

3 September 2002

[UK Home Office] It has been nearly four years, and my UK visa is about to expire. No worries, I can apply to the Home Office to grant me "indefinite leave to remain" in the UK.

Their application form states:
It is in your interests to apply 4-5 weeks before the last day of your leave to be in the UK. If you apply earlier than that, please note that your application may be delayed or refused."
On the other hand, they also state:
65% of all postal applications [...] take 6 weeks on average [and the rest] are taking up to 12 months to decide.
This could prove entertaining.
