Maker Faire 2007

20 May 2007

[Maker Faire] This weekend was the Maker Faire in San Mateo. A large number of very talented creators, tinkerers and hackers gathered to show what they could do. The exhibits were remarkably open and non-commercial. There were very few "Do Not Touch" signs. Maker Faire is still quite young, I hope that this free-wheeling hands-on flavour persists in years to come.

I think this is the first time I've visited such a show as a mere spectator. Usually I've got a robot or two in tow (my hardware won't arrive in San Francisco for another couple of weeks). Next year should be more constructive.

I took some photographs of the show with the intention of uploading them to Flickr. However Flickr has been taken over by Yahoo since I was there last and I am unable login using Yahoo's busted authentication system. Meh. So I've used a photo library I programmed myself.

Update: My chairs finally arrived from Scotland. I'm currently feeling a bit ... outnumbered.

Also, the Mandelbrot scroll I'm painting is now 10% complete.
