Culture Clash

25 January 2004

This photograph taken last night of NASA officials celebrating the second successful Mars landing. It reminded me of when I first came to the UK. It took nearly half a year before I stopped accidentally making obscene gestures when referring to the number 2. When outside of North America, remember to position the palm facing out, not in.

Update: I'm getting confused mail from both sides of the Pond, so I'll spell this out.
Brits: In America that just means "two", with no other connotations.
Yanks: In Britain, that means "F*** off".

[Is it my imagination, or does the gentleman on the right of the photograph have three arms? The same man who is apparently getting a Vulcan nerve pinch from behind. Where does NASA hire these people?]
