I bought a small lathe for $100. Lacking prior experience with lathes, I specifically wanted one that was underpowered (do not do a Google image search for "lathe accident"). This one certainly qualifies as underpowered. But it's still a capable little machine. Here's a video of my first project with it.
Update: Meanwhile, my wife tried pottery for the first time. She made a Rocketdyne F-1 engine.
