Cycling Britain: Day 6

Copt Oak → Barrow upon Soar → Belvoir Castle → Foston → Lincoln

[Straight flat road] Still sore from yesterday's trip, we took a long, slow and refreshingly uneventful trip from Copt Oak to Lincoln. The route we chose ran along the top of a long ridge, so it was extremely flat and almost devoid of villages.

Halfway along the ridge we were overflown by a Spitfire. Only in Britain...

[Steam powered train] This steam train was going our way. It took a lot of self control not to jump on board.

One place we did pass by was Belvoir Castle. However it was not a 'real' castle, but rather a stately mansion, so we opted not to pay for entrance.

[Four road signs] One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

[Defect in AA map] At one point Chris and I became separated (my mountain bike made it across a nasty shortcut whereas his touring bike did not). We then wasted over an hour trying to meet up again. The culprit turned out to be the AA map we'd been using. It showed a road when there was in fact only a narrow footbridge and a ford for horses.

It is possible that this is one of the AA's deliberate mistakes to catch people who copy their maps.

[Lincoln hostel] The hostel at Lincoln.
