Here are some of the more successful robotic devices I've designed and constructed, as well as some other bits of unusual hardware:
| Combination Lock Cracker | Robotic Bagpipe Chanter | ||
| Infra-red mouse trap | Computerized Etch A Sketch | ||
| A guide to controlling stepper motors | Remote rebooter | ||
| CMOS Gray Code decoder | Aquarium pump & filter | ||
| Artificial Neuron | 48 CD AOL Lamp | ||
| Simple 3D mouse | Dodecahedron lamp shade | ||
| Model of a Suspension Bridge | Three of my first creations |
People keep sending me email asking advice on how to get started building robots. The best advice I can give is to get Robot Builder's Bonanza. This book starts with basic control circuits, builds autonomous rovers, and works its way up to microcontrollers. If you are not sure where to start, this is it. I think the Ottawa Public Library got rather fed up with me renewing the book over and over and over...
